Joel Zumaya suffers major elbow injury

Detroit Tigers' flame-throwing reliever Joel Zumaya left last night's game against the Minnesota Twins with what appeared to be a serious right elbow injury.

Zumaya collapsed to the ground after delivering an eight-inning pitch and was in obvious pain as the training staff attended to him.

Tigers manager Jim Leyland said that his pitcher will have an MRI on the elbow this morning. Catcher Gerald Laird said he heard "just like a little pop" before Zumaya crumpled.

Zumaya has missed major portions of the past two seasons with shoulder problems and the season before with a middle finger strain. One of baseball's hardest-throwers, he's maintained a 2.58 ERA in 38 1/3 innings of work this year.

Leyland, while unaware of the exact nature of the injury, painted a grim picture.

"Every pitcher that ever pitched is one pitch away from throwing his last one," Leyland said, "and certainly I don't want to paint a bad picture here because I'm not saying that's the case here at all. But that's just the way it is."

With Byrd's Death, NJ's Lautenberg Becomes Senate's Oldest Member

New Jersey's Frank Lautenberg became the oldest serving U.S. Senator Monday morning with the passing of West Virginia's Robert Byrd.

Byrd was 92, and had served in the Senate for just over half a century, the longest of any individual in its 207 year history.

Lautenberg, 86, has been elected five times to the upper house of the Congress, although he retired once, in 2000, and then came out of retirement to run again in 2002.

That was the year of the so-called 'Torricelli Switcheroo,' when then-Senator Robert Torricelli dropped out of his re-election race after a rapid drop in the polls because of ethics allegations made against him.

On an early October evening a month before election day, Democratic party leaders huddled in Trenton and at the Governor's mansion in Princeton to try to decide who to pick as Torricelli's replacement.

Former Senator Bill Bradley was considered, and reportedly an offer was actually made to U.S. Representative Frank Pallone(D-Monmouth) who turned it down for personal reasons before Lautenberg was asked if he would take on the job.

After surviving a court challenge by Republicans, Lautenberg went on to overcome the polling lead of Republican Doug Forrester in a matter of just four weeks and win election to what was then his fourth term in the Senate.

This year, Lautenberg was diagnosed with stomach cancer, but just this past weekend announced at a dinner of Garden State Equality that he is now "cancer free," with his doctors last week telling him his cancer is in remission after aggressive treatment at Sloan Kettering.

Asked repeatedly in the past if he would consider running for re-election in 2014, when he wouldU. be 90 years old, Lautenberg has scoffed at the idea of retiring.

Considered one of the most liberal members of the Senate, one of his signature moments came in the 1980's when he wrote the legislation that would lead to the banning of smoking on all domestic airline flights.

Source :Knorr Classic Sauces, Hollandaise Sauce Mix

Hollandaise means Holland-style or from Holland. This is a French sauce that originated in 19th century French cuisine. Most historians agree that it was originally called Sauce Isigny after a town in Normandy known for its butter. During World War I, butter production came to a halt in France and had to be imported fromHolland. The name was changed to Hollandaise to indicate the source of the butter and was never changed back.

Prince Albert of Monaco to wed Olympic swimmer Charlene Wittstock

As a five-time Olympic bobsledder, Prince Albert II of Monaco probably ranks as the most successful royal force in sports in recent years. And now another Olympian will join Monaco's royal lineage, with Albert getting engaged to Charlene Wittstock.

The willowy Wittstock was an Olympic swimmer for South Africa in 2000. She didn't medal at the Games, but she was a gold medalist at the 1999 All Africa Games, in the 100-meter freestyle.

Wittstock's countenance no doubt will draw comparisons to Monaco's last crown princess, the late American movie star Grace Kelly, who was Albert's mother.

No wedding date has been set for Albert, 52, and Wittswtock, 32, according to the AP.

Obama Summons His Top General in Afghanistan, Back to White House, After Disparaging Remarks

The President Obama is waiting to meet his top general in Afghanistan face-to-face after the general ripped the president and other members of his national security team in a controversial article appearing in Rolling Stone magazine.

The commander-in-chief has summoned General Stanley McChrystal to the White House for a previously scheduled meeting in the Situation Room on Wednesday. Typically Gen. McChrystal would participate in the monthly meeting on Afghanistan and Pakistan via secure video-conference, but Obama has demanded to see McChrystal in person.

In the article, McChrystal sheds light on many of his contentious relationships within the Obama administration. He makes disparaging remarks aboutPresident Obama, Vice President Joe Biden, U.S. Ambassador to Afghanistan Karl Eikenberry, and National Security Adviser Jim Jones. McChrystal acknowledges he voted for the president but recalls how Mr. Obama looked "uncomfortable and intimidated" by a roomful of military brass.

In his comments about U.S. Ambassador Eikenberry, the general says he felt "betrayed" and was "blind-sided " by the ambassador's harsh criticism of McChrystal and his counter-insurgency war strategy, in a classified cable that was leaked to the New York Times earlier this year.

General McChrystal also talks about Vice President Biden, who opposes the counter-insurgency plan. The general is quoted joking about Biden, "'Are you asking about Vice President Biden?' McChrystal says with a laugh. 'Who's that?'

'Biden?', suggests a top adviser.

'Did you say: bite me?'", answers McChrystal.

McChrystal has now fired Duncan Boothby, the press aide who booked the Rolling Stone interview.

An aide to McChrystal also calls National Security Adviser Jim Jones "a clown" who remains "stuck in 1985".

General McChrystal spoke to Defense Secretary Robert Gates and Joint Chiefs of Staff Admiral Mike Mullen on Monday. Mullen said he was extremely disappointed in what he read in the Rolling Stone story. He also spoke with Senate Foreign Relations Committee Chairman John Kerry, D-Mass., and Senate Armed Services ranking member John McCain, R-Ariz.

Early Tuesday McChrystal issued a statement of apology for his remarks:

"I extend my sincerest apology for this profile. It was a mistake reflecting poor judgment and should never have happened. Throughout my career, I have lived by the principles of personal honor and professional integrity. What is reflected in this article falls far short of that standard. I have enormous respect and admiration forPresident Obama and his national security team, and for the civilian leaders and troops fighting this war and I remain committed to ensuring its successful outcome."

US Open Golf 2010: Tiger Woods Returns To The Scene

US Open Golf 2010 has began. For Tiger Woods the US Open Golf 2010 means the return to the scene of 1 of his greatest hits. U.S. It will be US Open Golf 2010 edition no.110. The American Tiger Woods is back this week on the site of one of his greatest triumphs in 2000 to contest the US Open Golf 2010 on the course at Pebble Beach in California, with the desire to concentrate on his quest new majors.

Two days before the start of US Open Golf 2010 Thursday, the champion has concentrated on its shape and condition of his game and cut short any questions about her private life. “These are not your business,” he replied sharply, and a reporter who asked him boldly where was his marriage. “The neck is better, this is not what I want, but it is much better, for sure,” said the world No.1, acknowledging however that he was still a bit painful.

Woods said his game also went in the right direction after a gap of five months, following his car accident and unpacking media on his extramarital affairs in late 2009, and he is ready for US Open Golf 2010. He will play this weekend’s fifth tournament.

“I have not had one day where I could not work out. The more I play, the better I feel. It is a step in the right direction for US Open Golf 2010″ he added. Where I was early June, is where were the other guy in January or February in the number of rounds and tournaments played. So I began to regain my senses. I know I must be patient. “

The champion with 14 victories in Grand Slam play the first two rounds at Pebble Beach with the Englishman Lee Westwood and South African Ernie Els. On this same journey in 2000, he had won with 15 strokes ahead of runner up, Els, which is still the record for the biggest victory in a major tournament, and maybe the winner of US Open Golf 2010.

According to the South African, this gap had changed the face of golf, many players changing their game”. And ten years later, we’re here and we have a lot more guys strong, physical and athletic on our circuit. I think that the sport has come a long way since that tournament, “Els said, and now we have to focus on the US Open Golf 2010.

The American Phil Mickelson won the Masters last April, seems to be one of the most serious candidates to victory. “I had a good time last year in New York … Many times I have had opportunities but I could never happen. US Open Golf 2010 is one that I would win”, he said. Mickelson, world number two, finished second in the U.S. Open five times (1999, 2002, 2004, 2006, 2009).

Other contenders for the title include the American Lucas Glover, defending champion Lee Westwood, the Englishman, and the South African Retif Goosen and Argentina’s Angel Cabrera. There will be a close US Open Golf 2010.

This is the fifth time the U.S. Open is played at Pebble Beach. Each time, he crowned grand champions Jack Nicklaus (1972), Tom Watson (1982), Tom Kite (1992), Tiger Woods (2000). Gregory Havret and Jean-Francois Lucquin are the only two representatives lights. Who do you think it will win the US Open Golf 2010?

Cop punches woman; union official says cop was justified

The president of the Seattle Police Officers Guild says an officer was justified in the punching a young woman who shoved him in a dispute over jaywalking.

Rich O'Neil told KCPQ-TV that punching her in the face was an appropriate use of force as the officer struggled with two women and a crowd formed. O'Neil says it's wrong to call the punch police brutality or racist.

Cell phone video shows Officer Ian P. Walsh trying to control two women Monday and punching a 17-year-old in the face.

Acting deputy police chief Nick Metz has said the women bear much of the responsibility for resisting arrest.

Seattle Urban League CEO James Kelly says the punch was an overreaction that brought to mind a video taken April 17 of two Seattle officers kicking a Hispanic suspect.

Police are conducting an internal investigation.

Flacking for War Boss Petraeus

Army Gen. David Petraeus passed out briefly during Senate testimony this morning about Afghanistan.

But don’t bother looking for video of the U.S. Central Command leader making a face-plunge down on the table where he was seated during the Armed Services Committee hearing on the nearly nine-year war. The Pentagon’s top press spokesman, former ABC newsman Geoff Morrell, made sure of that.

As Petraeus slumped forward in an apparent fainting spell, Morrell jumped to his feet and positioned himself to block one of the committee’s television cameras from observing the general. He then pointed to an underling and motioned for him to block the view of a second camera.

All the video of the peculiar incident shows is Petraeus’s head seemingly propped up for a moment by one of several uniformed military aides, including one who grabbed his glass of water.

Afghanistan the New ‘Saudi Arabia of Lithium’?

After decades of war and internal conflict with the Taliban, Afghanistan may finally have a glimmer of the hope for a thriving economy. Pentagon officials discovered a mother lode of valuable mineral deposits, including lithium, which the modern world is clamoring for to power batteries and iPhones.

The potential worth of the mineral deposits is estimated at $1 trillion, which is a far cry from the measly $12 billion output from Afghanistan’s murky economy based on poppy production and illegal drug sales.

The front page piece in today’s New York Times, couldn’t have been leaked at a better time, as the renewed military effort in Afghanistan to defeat the Taliban is seeing little success of late. Additionally, the Karzai-led government continues to be racked with corruption, making it difficult for the U.S. to establish a functional central government, as it prepares to pull out its forces.

Although, it will take years, if not decades for Afghanistan to develop the infrastructure needed to mine the mineral deposits, the Pentagon sees the potential for Afghanistan to become the next “Saudi Arabia of lithium.”

According to the Times’ piece, U.S. officials are now assisting the government in obtaining international contracts to mine the country’s valuable resources, in the hopes of transforming the poverty stricken country of Afghanistan into an economic mining powerhouse:

“The previously unknown deposits — including huge veins of iron, copper, cobalt, gold and critical industrial metals like lithium — are so big and include so many minerals that are essential to modern industry that Afghanistan could eventually be transformed into one of the most important mining centers in the world, the United States officials believe.” [...]

“While it could take many years to develop a mining industry, the potential is so great that officials and executives in the industry believe it could attract heavy investment even before mines are profitable, providing the possibility of jobs that could distract from generations of war.”

But, not so fast. With a corrupt government and Taliban militants fighting for control of the newfound wealth, there are no guarantees, the people of Afghanistan would benefit from a thriving economy with jobs and a higher standard of living. What’s more likely, is an all too familiar scene in third world countries holding mineral reserves, run by despots controlling the wealth for themselves.

Still, the wealth of valuable mineral deposits is the first bit of good news to come out of Afghanistan in quite a while.

Kinect: What We Know So Far

Microsoft officially renamed Project Natal, the full-body motion control system for the Xbox 360, Kinect on Sunday evening during a kick-off event for the E3 2010 trade show.

The event wasn't a keynote presentation, but a Kinect-themed 45-minute theatrical performance by Cirque du Soleil. The show featured a 76-person cast of "dancers, muscians, acrobats and clowns," 25-foot high projection screens above the stage and a 9-foot elephant puppet. The performance was also interspersed with brief demos of upcomong Kinect game titles.

During the performance, Microsoft did not show much more than the Kinect name and a brief look at some of the anticipated titles planned for Kinnect's launch later this year. Microsoft will release more details Monday morning during a press conference in Las Vegas scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Pacific Time.

Until then, here's a quick breakdown of what's been announced, and some of the rumors circulating in advance of Microsoft's official Kinect announcement.

Games
There are supposedly going to be around 12 titles available when Kinect launches later this year. Some of those titles, according to USA Today , include:

Kinectimals: a game where you can interact and train 20 different cats including the more carniverous felines like lions and cheetahs.

Joyride: a racing game.

Kinnect Sports: similar to Wii Sports, this is a grab bag of sporting events for Kinect systems including boxing, bowling, soccer, volleyball and more.

Kinect Adventures: a river-raft race game for up to four players (2 per boat).

Dance Central: a dance game produced by MTV.

The Los Angeles Times also has a breakdown of several games that Microsoft was showing to journalists last month that may also show up in Kinect. One game was an obstacle course that players make their way through, and another was Ricochet where you use your hands, head and feet to block oncoming bouncing balls. Ricochet was part of Microsoft's Project Natal demo last year during E3 2009.

Star Wars
At the moment most of the games for Kinect appear to be new and original titles. However, LucasArts will bring a more familiar franchise to Kinect by developing a full-body motion control game in the Star Wars universe. It's not clear if the game will be based on an older Star Wars title or something new, but Sunday's performance involved lightsaber duels so if Kinect works as promised Star Wars for Kinect stands to be a big hit.

November Rumor
There's no clear launch date for Kinect other than a holiday season launch date; however, UK-based gaming news site MCV is reporting that anonymous sources inside Microsoft are saying Kinect will launch in November.

Pricing
Pricing is another detail expected to be announced Monday morning. Current rumors suggest there will be two version of Natal with the more expensive version priced at $189, according to inside sources speaking to the gaming blog VG247 .

That's about all the information and rumor circulating about Microsoft Kinect for Xbox 360, but all will be revealed Monday morning at 10:30 a.m. Pacific Time. Other rumored announcements for Monday include a slimmer version of the Xbox 360 with 250GB storage and intergrated Wi-Fi.

Video Controls
In the video below you can see how Kinnect can be used to fast forward through a recorded television program by simply waving your arm. USA Today says you will also be able to control menus for the Xbox 360's integrated Netflix feature with hands-free gestures.

You can watch Microsoft's announcement live on gamespot.com, and don't forget to check in with PCWorld as well as our sister site GamePro for all the post-press conference action.

World Cup 2010 Game 6: Slovenia 1, Algeria 0

The relief and happiness from the United States over the 1-1 draw with England dissipated somewhat the following morning with news that goalkeeper hero Tim Howard may have broken ribs. (And, seriously, playing a half with broken ribs...who says soccer is not a rough sport?) The best result in this would have probably been a 0-0 tie so that the United States was ahead on goals scored. Slovenia's late goal means that the United States almost certainly has to one of its last two games...that's assuming Slovenia doesn't tie England, too.

The game itself was pretty dull, and Slovenia didn't look great until Algeria had a man sent off for two silly yellow cards (jersey pull and hand ball diving for a header)--within four minutes of coming on. Algeria looked liked they had the possession ability to gut out a tie, but once the goal went in that was all she wrote. One bright side for the United States is that the 1-0 score wasn't a huge difference in terms of goal differential tiebreakers (or goals scored) down the line.

When I was in grade school I knew all the capitals of Europe. Now I'm not sure if I could identify all the countries on a map. If I understand my history correctly, Slovenia was autonomous in the early part of the 20th century but annexed (is that the right word?) by Yugoslavia in the 1920s. It was part of Yugoslavia after World War II but gained independence in the 1990s.

This is a reminder for the football fans that today three of FIFA World Cup 2010 matches will take place. The first match will be playing between South Korea and Greece and the second match will be played between the two old rivals England and America. Both the two matches will be live telecasted on your TV screens and even online as well. So all you have to do is to just pack up your work and take a shower to get ready for the FIFA World Cup fever matches.

Talking about Greece vs. Korea match, however both the teams are of the same level as both perform well but not up to the mark as other teams such as France, Brazil and Spain. Both teams are favorites for today’s match, as the team, who will perform well in the match and won it will gain the precious points. So today, it is being expected that the match will turn out to be exciting and full of entertaining as both the teams are balanced.

But being a good defensive side, Greece is being predicted as winner by the experts. The team of Greece is based on young and fresh midfielders in comparison to South Korea. But on the other hand South Korea is known to be the Asia’s most successful team that is participating in the FIFA World Cup 2010. The match will be aired live on ESPN at 7:30 AM ET from Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium, Port Elizabeth, South Africa.

World Cup Live Streaming Websites: Where to Watch World Cup 2010 Online

The biggest sporting event in the world (next to the Olympics, of course) is underway and the World Cup 2010 is becoming the single most popular topic on the web today.

No matter who you are, where you were born, your personal interests or your knowledge on sports, there’s always some reason why you should be watching the World Cup.

Ideally, most fans would be chugging back a few beers and mingling with friends at a local pub while watching the biggest games. Ideally, that would be the case but that’s not always possible, is it?

Because of the schedule of the World Cup – and the fact that it’s taking place in South Africa – it’s difficult for many to watch the games live. Are you telling me you want to miss Cristiano Ronaldo’s first goal where he rips off his shirt, revealing his incredibly toned upper body glissening with sweat? Okay, maybe we’re getting off track.

Rockland Trust launches mutual funds

Rockland Trust in Hanover has launched its 1st two mutual funds. The Trus seeks alternative revenue sources beyond its traditional offerings, the Patriot Ledger reports.

The Ledger reports that the funds have already attracted significant interest. The large-cap fund has about $55 million in assets, and the midcap fund has about $25 million, the Ledger notes.

David Smith, Rockland Trust’s chief investment officer, said the bank launched the funds last month as a way to generate revenue outside of its traditional market.

“The goal is going to be to deliver the strong investment management services, that we deliver locally to clients, outside of Rockland Trust’s geographic footprint,” Smith said.

“There’s a significant market outside the Rockland Trust geographic footprint.”

The mutual funds also will help the bank become less reliant on interest-rate revenue from loans, Smith said.

After attending the Graham Junior College in Boston and then graduating in 1971, Any Kaufman turned to stand-up comedy by performing his skills at various small clubs along the East Coast.

The attention-grabbing performance in his career came with the character of Foreign Man. After that there was no looking back for the marvelous comedian. His fake accent, which he often used to utter, “I would like to imitate Meester Carter, De President of The United States”. He would continue in the same breath, “Hello, I’m Meester Carter, De President of The United States. T’ank You Veddy Much’. The audience used to enjoy it.

He once announced to imitate the great Elvis Presley. His imitation was what was hugely liked by Presley himself, as he described it his favorite. When the audiences applauded this performance with big claps, Kaufman bowed and said in his trademark style, ‘T’ank You Veddy Much’.

One day, the family members were gathered at the Thanksgiving dinner in 1983, he started coughing non-stop. This made all of them worried and concerned over Andy Kaufman’s persistent coughing and it came to everybody’s knowledge that this had been happening for last one month. He was initially diagnosed with a rare type of lung cancer in December 1983. Tom Cruise Plays "Tycoon" with J-Lo at MTV Movie Awards
Dancing with the Stars, watch out! the J-Lo and Tom Cruise might be on the ballot sheet next season after their Sunday night MTV romp.

Singer-actress Jennifer Lopez and a hairy-chested, bald Tom Cruise burned the floor with "Tropic Thunder" as they danced together in the opener of the 19th annual MTV Movie Awards Sunday night.

The upholstery-bouncing Scientologist got "jiggy with it" as he slipped into media mogul persona Les Grossman and danced it up, pop-star style, with Fly Girl J-Lo over the music to "Get Back" by rapper Ludacris.

Cruise was the obvious scene-stealer with his booty-shaking, stage-jumping antics.

With matching canes, Jennifer Lopez shimmied her way onstage like a proto-Bond girl in a stringy, metallic dress and danced to her pop hit "Get Right" alongside Cruise who kept rhythm - butt-slapping, Michael Jackson spins and all - with great energy and enthusiasm.

Cruise's wife, actress Katie Holmes, watched on nervously as her hubby made a "tycoon" of himself.

Cruise is promoting his upcoming film "Knight and Day," which co-stars Cameron Diaz. He - dressed as himself this time - and Diaz also presented the closing award for Best Film during the show. It went to "The Twilight Saga: New Moon."

Giant Sinkhole in Guatemala City 2010 Photos – Photoshopped?

Guatemala Sinkhole Photos. Well, according to various reports, yes they are real! No, they are not Photoshopped images as some might be thinking or claiming, but they are actual sinkhole photos. The sinkhole appeared after the tropical storm Agatha came and hit Guatemala. The country is no stranger to sinkholes either. In February 2007, a large sinkhole appeared in a poor neighborhood in northeast Guatemala city that killed 3 people. The sinkhole was 100.5 meters deep and was created by fluid from a sewer that dissolved the rock underneath.

Where is the sinkhole located? The crated appeared in Zone 2 of Guatemala City. This “hundimiento” or spontaneous sinkhole is so large that it engulfs a three story building and a house and is larger than a street intersection. There are no reports yet on how deep the sinkhole is. There are also no reports of injuries caused by this sinkhole.

According to scientists, this occurrence happens from time to time during major storms. It could be caused naturally such as in this case or it could be caused by man itself such as the last one back in 2007.

Check out pictures of the sinkhole as released by the Guatemala government after the jump:
Guatemala is the largest city and capital of the Republic of Guatemala. It is considered the economic capital of Central America and is situated between Mexico and Honduras.

Ted Koppel's son, 40, found dead in NYC apartment

The 40-year-old son of former ABC News anchor Ted Koppel was found dead in an apartment in the upper Manhattan, and cause of death is being investigated, authorities said Tuesday. Andrew Koppel was declared dead around 1:30 a.m. Monday in the apartment in the Washington Heights neighborhood, Detective John Sweeney said.

Ellen Borakove, a spokeswoman for the city medical examiner, said an autopsy was performed Monday but results were pending further study, including toxicology and tissue testing.

Additional tests were needed to determine the manner and cause of death, Borakove said. They will take a few weeks to complete, she said.

Koppel had been drinking for hours with a man he met at a bar, the New York Post reported Tuesday. "He had a straw hat on, and I had one on, and he said, 'Nice hat, man,'" his drinking partner, Russell Wimberly, told the newspaper. "We got to talking, and he started buying me drinks."

Wimberly said that Koppel drank whiskey, and that neither man had anything to eat all day.

Koppel was appointed attorney for the city Housing Authority's civil litigation division in 2001, a post he resigned in 2008, the agency said Tuesday.

Ted Koppel was the longtime anchor of the ABC News show "Nightline." Andrew Koppel, of Queens, was one of his four children. A call to the elder Koppel's publicist was not immediately returned Tuesday.

Andrew Koppel was convicted of misdemeanor assault in 1994 for striking a U.S. Senate aide during an argument at a Capitol Hill automated teller machine. At the time, he was a student at Georgetown Law School.

Wimberly said that after drinking, he and Koppel eventually wound up at the apartment, which belonged to Wimberly's friend. He and the friend, Belinda Caban, told Koppel to sleep it off and later found that he had gotten sick and appeared not to be breathing, the Post said. The two said they called 911.
