Empire State Building:9/11 Tribute Light Tonight

The iconic NY building lights up for many events. Today, the Empire State Building lights up for the 10th anniversary of September 11.

Today, the Empire State Building will light up red, white and blue in honor of those who died in the 9/11 attacks—The series of four coordinated suicide attacks took place in New York City, Washington, D.C. that caused the deaths of 2,753 people.

According to esbnyc.com, the Empire State Building’s tower lights have long recognized key milestones, events, charitable organizations, countries and holidays throughout the world, not political or religion related events. In the past the building lights honored royal deaths like Princess Diana’s, New York sport teams like the NY Jets and recently, NY City Pride Week, where the building lit up in beautiful colors of the rainbow.

The last time the Empire State Building showed today’s red, white and blue colors was this past Labor Day.
