If Jim Tressel Leaves, Gambling On The Ohio State May Never Be The Same

Jim Tressel has been the steady leader of the Ohio State Buckeyes football program for a long time now, and nobody expected that his reign at 1 of the top programs in the nation would be ending anytime soon. That was before rumors started to circulate on Christmas Day that the Sugar Bowl would be the last game Tressel coaches at Ohio State.

Gamblers and Buckeye fans were stunned on the Saturday when reports indicated that several sources close to the Ohio State program claimed that Tressel would no longer be the Buckeyes head coach after the Sugar Bowl. The sources also claimed that recruits have been notified and given the chance to look elsewhere if they wish.

For gamblers, Tressel's disappearance from the Ohio State sideline would be devastating. The Buckeyes have been a magnet for bettors, especially when playing against inferior teams over the past decade. The majority of Ohio State's losses have come to top 25 teams, and the Buckeyes have handled their lighter opponents for the most part with ease.

If Tressel walks away, or is fired, neither of which has been confirmed as of yet, he would leave behind a legacy of getting to the championship game and then falling flat. The Buckeyes did win a national title over Miami, but many suggest that was a product of a phantom pass interference call on the Hurricanes.

This year, Ohio State rocked the Hurricanes at home and looked like they were prepared to make a run at the national title. A mid-season loss ended those hopes, but the Buckeyes did manage to still get into a BCS bowl. Ohio State will fave Arkansas in the Sugar Bowl.

The Buckeyes will be without quarterback Terrelle Pryor for the first 5 games of next season. Unfortunately for the Buckeyes, one of those match ups will be against the Hurricanes in Miami. Even should Tressel return next season, without Pryor gamblers may have a hard time committing money to the Buckeyes in the 1st half of next year.
