Providence Journal Buries the Lede in Pepper-Spray Assault on Conservatives
The Providence Journal’s coverage of the assault on traditional marriage advocates in Warwick, Rhode Island on July 28 has consistently downplayed how pepper spray was used on the conservative protesters, in favor of how food was thrown at them.

ProJo.com’s Wednesday report on the attack ran with the headline, “Same-sex marriage protesters assaulted with food,” and didn’t mention the pepper spray until the second-to-last paragraph. The following morning, reporter Kate Branson used a more nuanced headline (“Update: 4 accused of hurling food at activists in Warwick”), but at least mentioned the pepper spray in the second paragraph.

The American Society for the Defense of Tradition, Family, and Property, also known as the American TFP, is a conservative Catholic group based in the central Pennsylvania town of Spring Grove, and supported by hundreds of thousands of donors all over the U.S. They are conducting a traditional marriage crusade in the northeastern states of New York, Rhode Island, and Maine. “Caravans” of their young volunteers are traveling across those three states, and stop at busy intersections, holding signs expressing their support of traditional marriage, which they believe to be a sacrament.

gdp report

US Stocks Futures Sink Into Red After GDP Report; DJIA Down 4,
NEW YORK (MarketWatch) -- U.S. stock futures fell into the red after the Commerce Department's first estimate of second-quarter gross domestic product, despite a smaller decline in the measure than the Street expected.

Consumer spending dropped, disappointing the market. Consumer spending had gained slightly in the first quarter.

Gross domestic product fell at a seasonably adjusted 1% annual rate in April through June, smaller than its 6.4% contraction in the first quarter and its 5.4% decline in the fourth quarter. Wall Street expected a bigger decline in second-quarter GDP, and economists surveyed by Dow Jones Newswires projected a 1.5% decrease.

Ahead of the report, Dow Jones Industrial Average futures had been up about 56 points. Following the release, the gains were pared and sunk into the red, with Dow futures recently down 11 points to 9079.

The report showed a big engine of the economy, consumer spending, decelerated in the spring. Fear for jobs is keeping wallets tight and seen muting the economy's expected recovery in the second half. Friday's data showed spending slid by 1.2% in April through June, after increasing 0.6% in the first and dropping 3.1% in the fourth quarter.

What cut the rate of contraction in GDP during the second quarter were much smaller declines in exports and business spending. Also, inventory liquidation took less of a bite out of the economy; company replenishing of goods should boost output going forward.

The government's price index for personal consumption expenditures climbed 1.3% after falling 1.5% in the first quarter. The measure of how much consumer spend rose 2% excluding food and energy, after increasing 1.1% in the first quarter.

For the current quarter, which July 1, economists are expecting a rise in GDP, suggesting the recession is at or near its end.

obama beer

Demonstrators Want Lemonade at Obama Beer Smmit,

Representatives of Pray at the Pump (more about them shortly) and the pastor of Rising Sun Baptist Church of Baltimore plan to picket the White House today, asking President Obama to change his choice of beverage when he meets today with Sgt. James Crowley of the Cambridge, Mass., police department and Harvard University professor Henry Louis Gates Jr. over a beer.

The demonstrators want the White House to serve lemonade instead.

Beer sends the "wrong message to our nation's youth who are becoming alcoholics at young ages," said Rocky Twyman, founder of Pray at the Pump, in a statement this morning. "Whether or not he likes it, President Obama is a role model for all the youth in America. His actions count."

Obama has arranged the beer summit in an effort to mediate the the racially charged controversy caused by the arrest of Gates by Crowley near Harvard University earlier this month.

texas library association

Tattooed Ladies of The Texas Library Association,
A fundraising activity for the TLA LIBRARY DISASTER RELIEF FUND, this TLA calendar showcases the charms and often concealed art of 18 women of the Texas library community. As members of the Texas Library Association, these women volunteered to reveal their ink and share some of their stories for the well-being of our state’s libraries.

I spend a lot of time in Texas Libraries, I have library cards for Grand Prairie, Fort Worth, Dallas, Irving, and Houston and a TexShare card in case I find another library I’d like to check a book out from. For the most part, the people I see shelving books and scanning bar codes are not people I would pay to see naked. But the nude, semi-nude, and often clever fundraising calender is here to stay. If it’s good enough for policeman and firemen to show some skin for calendars, why not library workers?

Tattoos are all the rage these days, and I must admit that I have watched a couple of episodes of Miami Ink, or was it London Ink? or L.A. Ink? One of those shows were sideshow personalities try to tell us they are just normal people, who happen to be covered head to toe with tattoos. Not that there’s anything wrong with that. I like the idea of moderation and find some tattoos very interesting.

The sample photos for the TLA Calendar feature a bunch of women who look like librarians-with a few odd and interesting tattoos. I suppose it could have been worse, they could be showing off their piercings instead.

Of course, this is not really a pin up calendar, The Tattooed Ladies of TLA hope to raise money. The TLA calendars cost $20 and has 40 pages for their 18 months. As a professional portrait photographer I am not too impressed with the photos, but the tattoos are prominently featured.

Well, not everyone can look like tattoo goddess Kat Von D-and I think that’s a good thing.

peggy cooper cafritz

DC Board Of Education Peggy Cooper Cafritz,
DC Board Of Education Peggy Cooper Cafritz:Fire last night destroyed the mansion and art collection of D.C. arts patron Peggy Cooper Cafritz, and firefighters battling the blaze were hindered by problems with water pressure, The Washington Post reports this morning.

Fire Chief Dennis Rubin said it took nearly two hours to find a sustained stream strong enough to fight the fire. As firefighters unfurled lengths of hose that eventually spread for blocks, flames roared through the mansion’s windows and leapt through the roof, the Post reported.

similar problems in 2007 when broken fire hydrants were an issue in the response to a major blaze at the Georgetown library and an Adams Morgan condominium.

A spokeswoman for the D.C. Water and Sewer Authority, however, said last night’s fire in the exclusive Foxhall neighborhood stemmed from fire crews trying to use too many hydrants connected to the same small water main, rather than other hydrants available in the neighborhood, the Post reported.
“It’s like watching Tara burn down,“ said next-door neighbor Peter Gillon, describing Cafritz’s house as “a really priceless, beautiful piece of architecture.“

The fire destroyed Cafritz’s extensive art collection, which featured works by major artists as well as young prospects with an emphasis on Africans and African Americans. “The whole collection is up in flames,“ Gillon told the Post.

The art collection and home were recently featured in Oprah magazine.

WJLA-TV reported Cafritz was on vacation and no one was at home when the fire started. Two dogs were rescued.

7 year old steals car

7 Year Old Steals Car, Utah police say that a 7-year-old led officers on a low-speed car chase in an attempt to avoid having to go to church.

Dispatchers received reports of a young boy driving recklessly on Sunday morning. Klint Anderson, Weber County Sheriff’s Captain, says an eye-witness saw the boy drive right through a stop sign.

Anderson says two deputies managed to catch up to the boy and tried (unsuccessfully) to stop the Dodge Intrepid in an area that was approximately 45 miles north of Salt Lake City. The car got up to speeds of 40 mph before the boy finally stopped in a driveway and hid inside a home.

Later, when the boy’s father later confronted him, he said he simply didn’t want to go to church. The boy will not be prosecuted as he is too young and no citations were issued. Police, however, police did urge the father to make his car keys more inaccessible to children.

todd genger

DA: Todd Genger, a Goldman Sachs Lawyer Caught Soliciting 15-year-old'
Todd Genger, a lawyer for Goldman Sachs, was caught in a sting operation targeting perverts who solicit young girls for sex. Genger, 33, has been accused of trying to lure an underage teen with explicit chat on the Internet and then traveling to Westchester to consummate the cyber-affair. What an idiot! The "girl" he was pursuing was an undercover investigator posing as a teenager in a chat room.

Here's the real shame in all this: Genger is a married man with three children of his own. Would have liked it if anyone tried to sexually assault any of his children as he had allegedly planned to do with this minor? He was reportedly nabbed after a series of Internet conversations that began April 13 and ended Monday. According to the district attorney's office, the investigator made it clear to Genger that she was underage.

Genger reportedly admitted to participating in the online conversations about the intended tryst, which included "specific explicit sexual acts." He has been arraigned on charges of trying to disseminate indecent material to a minor and was released on his own recognizance pending an Aug.11 court date. If convicted, the dirtbag faces 1-1/3 to four years in prison, if convicted.

I am pretty sure that this isn't the negative publicity Goldman Sachs wants at this time. He should be terminated immediately and his law license revoked.

madonna photos

Fitness trainer to the stars Tracy Anderson has helped sculpt the bodies of celebrities such as Madonna and Gwyneth Paltrow, among others.

Anderson came on "The Early Show" Wednesday to share new and innovative ways to use that old staple: the treadmill.

Anderson also commented on photos circulating on the Internet this week of Madonna looking less than flattering.

"Madonna doesn't look like that," Anderson told CBS News. "I think that the photo has been doctored. ...Madonna is one of the healthiest and strongest people that I know."

Anderson, who recently opened a studio in New York, uses a method she developed for the woman's body that trains accessory, under-used muscles to keep the body small.

"I don't want your muscles overtrained where you develop bulk," she told CBS News. "I want you to work out to create the opposite kind of body, so I develop regimens that are changing every 10 days. The constant change in your regimen is how you create a better body."

So, with Anderson's principles, your treadmill workout just got a makeover.

Anderson says normal, traditional workouts on the treadmill are about running or walking in repetition, which creates more muscle mass, making your muscles bigger. Her treadmill workout is designed she said to work your accessory muscles. Created for a celebrity client, Anderson's treadmill exercises changes up the exercises you do on the machine.

Anderson said the new workout is "basically dancing on the treadmill."

But, is dancing on a treadmill dangerous?

Anderson says no.

"It challenges your endurance so much more than a regular treadmill workout. All you really need is to learn four or five basic steps and you can create all kinds of really challenging workouts that still follow my method."

However, even before you step on a treadmill, Anderson warms up with call attitude lifts that exercise the hips and butt.

Another exercise is the "push-up leap" that takes your heart rate up, works your arms.

"I also like to change the movements to keep the mind activated as well as the muscles. I like to compare this to an ice skater doing a double axel."

Skipping on the treadmill is also an effective workout technique, according to Anderson.

She said single skips or single and double skips are easy on the quads and not as invasive as running in terms of building muscles.

"But you're burning calories," she said.

And remember the ballet term "sashaying"?

On the treadmill, Anderson uses this dance move to keep the cardio workout elevated.

"You are accomplishing three things at once with this type of movement because it's a different kind of movement than you're used to doing on a treadmill."

She said sashaying improves your skin tone, pulls muscles in and gets rid of fat.

madonna biceps

Madonna is a woman of so many missions: Kabbalah, AIDS advocacy, adoption.

Here's a new cause she might consider: gun control.

No, the Material Mom and pop superstar isn't toting AK47s to Malawi, Manhattan and beyond. Madonna's weapons of choice are her buff-beyond-belief biceps. Recent images of the singer display a double-barreled mass of sinewy veins that strike fear in the hearts of paparazzi and raise questions in the heads of fans and critics:

How and why does a 50-year-old woman get her arms to look like that?

"Oftentimes when your body fat is really, really, low, as Madonna's is, you're going to see veins pop," explained Leslie Bonci, director of sports nutrition at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. "Her body fat is minimal, and she does a lot of strength training workouts that are going to build her muscles to look more visible."

But scant fat plus hardcore exercise doesn't necessarily translate to a healthy body.

"When muscles look that way, it's often the result of pretty restrictive eating and dehydration," Bonci said, noting the "pop" of Madonna's veins mimics the appearance bodybuilders attempt to achieve for competitions.

"With bodybuilders, the goal is to be sinewy, to make everything stand out. How do you get to that goal? You restrict your fluid intake. But then you might collapse on stage."

Take note, Madonna: if you plan to keep high-kicking your way through your Sticky & Sweet world tour, a couple sips of Vitamin Water between sets might not be a bad idea.

Beyond that, maybe it's time to quit the quest to achieve ageless perfection. True, it's not just Madonna -- too many women in Hollywood abide by the ridiculous regimen of few hours of cardio here, one hour of lifting there, then a trip to the clinic to get lasered down and Botoxed up.

But she can help turn the tide. Madonna made her name in the '80s by bucking established trends and pioneering new ones. If she stopped striving for the body of a Greco-Roman God, perhaps the entertainment industry would adjust its expectations for what its female stars should look like.

And not for nothing, but she'd probably be happier. Those arms lift a lot, for sure, but they don't look like they've picked up an ice-cream cone in weeks.

hot or not

Swine flu hotline: hot or not?
Are the people tasked with answering your questions about swine flu up to scratch?

The swine flu hotline has been up and running five days, but already doubts are being raised about whether it can cope with demand should a "second wave" of the virus hit Britain in the autumn.

Not only that but many callers are dissatisfied with the advice they are given. One first-time mother described how she called the helpline about her three-month-old son and was asked a string of age-inappropriate questions such as "can you ask him if he has a headache?" A journalist from the Times who says she had the H1N1 virus reported that the helpline operator she phoned couldn't read the questions supplied and struggled to pronounce words including "metabolic".

They were not the only ones to query whether those answering the phone are qualified for the job. Over the weekend, two Mail on sunday journalists applied for jobs at one of the call centres and reported that one successful applicant was a 16-year-old school leaver who confessed she was so terrified she told a caller to dial 999. One would-be operator told another newspaper how he quit after being given just a 90-minute presentation and a manual to read in preparation for diagnosing cases, despite being promised six hours of training.

Have you called the hotline? Who answered the phone and what advice were you given? Share your experiences below.

microsoft yahoo

Microsoft Yahoo Search Deal: The Most Important Facts (And Some Opinion),

Now that the search deal struck between Microsoft and Yahoo has been officially confirmed by both companies, by means of a press release and a website dubbed let’s take a step back and analyze the most important tidbits from the announcement:

As expected, Microsoft will power Yahoo Search while Yahoo! will become the exclusive worldwide relationship sales force for both companies’ advertisers.

This will have major repercussions for the online advertising industry, where both Microsoft and Yahoo are strongholds and carry a lot of weight. Likely, it will take months if not years to align these important businesses. As Yahoo CEO Carol Bartz indicated in the press release, on the flip side advertisers and publishers would benefit significantly from a unified platform and the promise of scalability allround. I believe this is indeed the core of being able to compete with both companies’ dominant rival, Google.

Of course the companies didn’t spell out Google in the official announcements made this morning (except for a link on the Yahoo blog post), but which other company “dominates more than 70 percent of all search”? We actually thought it was more like 65%, but the reality is that this difference in statistics isn’t nearly as important as the obvious fact that Google controls the large majority of search market share on one hand and even more of the advertising dollars that flow into there on the other hand. Clearly, Microsoft desperately wants a piece of this cake, and it won’t settle for a small one.

Microsoft has shown it can compete in search by releasing Bing which by now clearly has claimed its stake as a quality search engine that people actually use and enjoy using to boot. It helps that it has boatloads of cash ready to market Bing aggressively, and you can make sure that they will, too. Furthermore, the companies claim the search deal and technology exchange can lead to more innovation in search, which I agree with wholeheartedly and encourage on multiple levels. If it effectively will eat away at Google’s core business by stealing significant market share organically remains to be seen, though.

One of the most apparent facts in the announcement that was not known beforehand by any blogs or news sites, is the longevity of the agreement: 10 years, which is like an eternity in the Internet space. Microsoft will acquire an exclusive 10 year license to Yahoo’s core search technologies, which is basically the same as saying it just gained unparalleled access to the blueprint of Yahoo Search, something that can only lead to improvement of its Bing search engine. That and the fact that Bing will be the exclusive algorithmic search and paid search platform for Yahoo! sites confirms the notion that Sunnyvale has indeed given up on search in a big way.

Yahoo! will become the exclusive worldwide relationship sales force for both companies’ premium search advertisers. Self-serve advertising for both companies will be fulfilled by Microsoft’s AdCenter platform, and prices for all search ads will continue to be set by AdCenter’s automated auction process. That means there’s now Google AdWords vs. Microsoft AdCenter and Google AdSense s. Microsoft PubCenter, and little else that matters in the search marketing arena. Take note, marketers.

Microsoft will pay traffic acquisition costs to Yahoo at an initial rate of 88% of search revenue generated on Yahoo’s owned and operated sites during the first 5 years of the agreement, and guarantee revenue per search in each country for the first 18 months following initial implementation in that country. This is huge, and it shows Redmond will continue to chase after the heart of Google, no matter how much money it takes. After those 18 month and 5 year periods, it’s unclear what will happen. Important to note is that Yahoo! will continue to syndicate its existing search affiliate partnerships.

Yahoo expects to fully implement the combined effort within 24 months following regulatory approval, which it hopes to gain early 2010. The company estimates - based on current levels of revenue and operating expenses - that the agreement will provide a benefit to annual GAAP operating income of approximately $500 million and capital expenditure savings of approximately $200 million. Yahoo! also estimates that this agreement will provide a benefit to annual operating cash flow of approximately $275 million, something it sorely needs and which shareholders will be very happy about if it checks out eventually.

Already, Yahoo and Microsoft are fencing off regulatory investigation and criticism, stating clearly that they will be limiting the data shared between the companies to the “minimum necessary to operate and improve the combined search platform”, and restrict the use of search data shared between the companies.

What do you think: is this a win-win agreement for both Microsoft and Yahoo? How about users? Should Google be worried? Will the deal be approved at all?

liz claman

MYFOXNY.COM - Fox Business' Liz Claman is about to run her first triathlon. The mother of two has been training hard.

Claman says, "I'm excited. It's something I've never done. When there is something you've never done before, why not go for that challenge, break out of that mold that forms around you every day at work, do something different."

It's really different compared to the "old-school" workouts she used to do.

Claman says, "I was the original aerobisizer. Embarrasing. I was at Jane Fonda's workout in Los Angeles when I was eighteen."

But sweating it out with Fonda is no triathlon but, with the help of her health coach, claman is getting both mentally and physically prepared.

With a five day a week workout plan that often begins at 5 a.m., claman has her hands full.

What is she looking forward to most after she crosses the finish line? She jokes, "cheesecake."

The anchor of "Countdown to the Closing Bell" is also a regular contributor to Fox 5 News.
---

Health Coach Peter K gave us these tips if you are interested in trying a triathlon.

Outline for first triathlon preparation:
1. Find a coach/trainer or mentor who does triathlons.
2. Start training at least 6 months before the event.
3. Start by training all 3 events weekly in short time periods. Ie- swim, bike, and run once per week starting with 20 min of each depending on your fitness level. Increase your times every 2 to 3 weeks and add bricks (ie swim then bike during same workout)
4. Do total body functional resistance training (ie Peter K Bands) 2 to 3 times per week for 20 min. This will make sure your muscles don't break down.
5. Stretch after every workout. This decreases chance of injury.
6. Eat the right foods. Eat more anti-inflamatory and energy foods like berries, salmon, nuts, fruit, veggies, and whole grains. Limit crackers, cookies, fried, processed and sugar foods.
7. Enjoy the experience. An event like this will change your life. You will gain a new sense of confidence, pride and accomplishment!

gretchen carlson
You know the opponents of health-care reform -- which obviously includes nearly every talking head who appears on Fox News -- are getting desperate when they start trying to scare elderly people by suggesting that President Obama's health-care plans will mean euthanization for old folks when they get hurt.

That's what the crew at Fox & Friends this morning did, led by "Fox News legal analyst" Peter Johnson Jr., and aided and abetted by Brian Kilmeade and Gretchen Carlson. First they played a snippet of Obama at a town-hall meeting on health care;

But what we can do is make sure that at least some of the waste that exists in the system that's not making anybody's mom better, that is loading up on additional tests or additional drugs that the evidence shows is not necessarily going to improve care, that at least we can let doctors know, and your mom know, that you know what, maybe this isn't going to help, maybe you're better off not having the surgery, but taking the painkiller.

This became the launching pad:

Kilmeade: Dying?!! Sucking it up?!! And not having surgery?

Johnson: Too sick, too expensive.

Kilmeade: Well, that's what this whole trend is!

Johnson: Absolutely. And some people are saying, 'Well, this isn't health care reform,' and other people are saying -- maybe me -- that this is a subtle form of euthanasia. And when you start looking at the proposals, you say, 'God, what's happening?'

Of course, all they had to do was watch the entire set of remarks on this by obama in their context to realize what's happening: that effective reform means cutting the waste created by a medical establishment that thrives on unnecessary procedures -- he wasn't suggesting that people be denied life-saving operations.

Obama made this clear up front:

Well, first of all, Doctor, I think it's a terrific question, and it's something that touches us all personally, especially when you start talking about end-of-life care. Some of you know my grandmother recently passed away, which was a very painful thing for me. She's somebody who helped raise me. But she's somebody who contracted what was diagnosed as terminal cancer; there was unanimity about that. They expected that she'd have six to nine months to life. She fell and broke her hip. And then the question was, does she get hip replacement surgery, even though she was fragile enough that they weren't sure how long she would last, whether she could get through the surgery.

I think families all across America are going through decisions like that all the time. And you're absolutely right that if it's my family member, if it's my wife, if it's my children, if it's my grandmother, I always want them to get the very best care.

But here's the problem that we have in our current health care system, is that there is a whole bunch of care that's being provided that every study, every bit of evidence that we have, indicates may not be making us healthier.

What's happening? Right-wingers are getting desperate and throwing up anything to see if it sticks. Now Obama wants to kill old people. Oy.

hush movie

Hello ladies and gentlemen…welcome to the Hush-Hush News Report! I'm Jeremy Thomas, bringing you the latest and greatest in Hollywood news, casting, rumors and more! It's hotter than hell for me here in Oregon…and yes, I realize that "hot" in Oregon doesn't even begin to compare with hot in other places in the world. But it's comparatively hot and when I've lived here my entire life and have the practically-webbed feet to prove it, 102 degrees is too damn hot. Anyway, enough of my whining…let's get to it!

Before you start reading, have you bookmarked 411Mania.com yet? It's the easiest thing in the world to do, and it'll get you your daily dose of entertainment news that much quicker! Typing the URL out in the address bar is such a pain, don'tcha think? Hell, make it your home page and it'll be that much easier for you!
Marcus Dunstan and Patrick Melton spoke at Comic-Con with Shock Till You Drop about the upcoming Saw VI. "Anyone who has felt slighted by the previous entries, look out," said Dunstan. Melton added in, "[Director] Kevin Greutert is an editor but, man, he knows horror movies," said Melton. "He knows all of the references we're making but he's very aware of controlling everything, what he'll need in the editing session. But part four was too confusing, part five wasn't confusing enough and this one hits the mark right in the middle. We have a really good 'A' story which makes all of the Tobin Bell flashbacks feel organic and not forced. There's good pacing and finally there's a resolution. Finally. Six could be done and that's it, there could be no more. In terms of the John Kramer storyline, we put a nice bow on it. It's fulfilling for people, I think."

Dunstan agrees and believes the film works on another level as well. "It's also timely. There are a couple of elements to the story that take advantage of our current climate."

Returning cast members include Costas Mandylor, Mark Rolston, Betsy Russell, Tobin Bell and Shawnee Smith. Then there's newcomer Peter Outerbridge. "He's great in this," said Melton. "He plays a character named William and him and Tobin, they're connected. Deeply connected. They have a wonderful back and forth. This film just feels more intimate than the other ones."

Last week, Melton and Dunstan signed up to write Saw VII for returning director David Hackl. And they hinted that there will definitely be some new surprises in store if all goes right.

I have to give Dunstan and Melton points here for having the guts to talk honestly about the previous Saw films. And this isn't just a case of them ragging on someone else—they co-wrote that last two films, so this is them admitting that they made mistakes. I enjoyed Saw IV quite a bit even though it relied on a heavy gimmick of hiding when it actually took place within the continuity until the very end, and Saw V was tolerable, though certainly a step or three down. That these guys realize there are problems mean that they were willing to look at their own work with a critical eye and that says volumes to me. At the same time, admitting fault in your previous work doesn't mean your new work is going to be any better, just different. I find a few worrying thoughts in the "current climate" talk because when Hollywood tries to be timely they usually fall flat on their face. Either way I was going to see it, but in the end this does make me just a little bit more hopeful and that's a good thing…especially if they're signed on for VII, which I see no need for but will surely make the studio a boatload of cash.

bachelorette finale
Despite a last ditch appeal from Reid Rosenthal, who was eliminated last week but came back to try to propose in the finale, Jillian Harris went ahead and chose another guy who left but came back, Ed Swiderski, in the finale of "The Bachelorette" Monday.

It was Swiderski who left midway through the season, when there was still a pack of guys Harris was pawing over. He was concerned about losing his job. Harris was upset about his going (because it was his idea and not her's?) and gladly accepted him back when he changed his mind (seems like rules have changed in this show so that leaving and coming back is allowed if it makes good TV).

Runner up was Kiptyn Locke, who claimed he had his heart broken for the first time in his life.

It's a strange little dance they do on "The Bachelorette" that's different than the main show "The Bachelor." She picks the guy, but he proposes to her - or rather she picks the guy that will propose to her (there hasn't been a scene of a woman proposing to a guy quite yet).

For the finale Jillian, who came in third in the last go-round of "The Bachelor," not only had two guys ready to marry her, she had three, with the ill-fated return of Reid.

It may all set the stage for Kiptyn as taking the central role in the next season of "The Bachelor." But I think it's about time they started fresh - the last few seasons have involved rejected former candidates doing the choosing themselves.

jtekt corporation

JTekt to buy Part of Timken's Auto bearing Ops-Nikkei

TOKYO (Nikkei)--JTekt Corp. (6473.TO), an auto component maker affiliated with Toyota Motor Corp. (TM), will acquire a part of U.S. bearings maker Timken Co.'s (TKR) auto bearing operations for about 30 billion yen to Y40 billion, the Nikkei reported in its Sunday edition.

According to the report, JTekt and Timken have already reached a basic agreement and the firms will likely announce the deal before the end of this month. JTekt will buy Timken's needle bearings operations, which likely accounted for about Y100 billion of Timken's Y530 billion group revenue last year, the report said.

Such a deal would be an indication of the global auto parts sector's attempt to reorganize and consolidate their businesses as demand remains weak, the report said.

apple tablet

Rumors of an Apple tablet – essentially a large iPhone or iPod touch – have been swirling for over a year. Today the Financial Times is adding credibility to the rumors, reporting that Apple is rushing to debut the device in time for the Christmas shopping season.

The article swings back and forth between the new device and a series of record label deals Apple could launch simultaneously, but here are the points specifically related to the tablet:

Screen size: “may be up to 10 inches diagonally”, touch sensitive (of course)

Phone capability? Unlikely – it’s more like a large iPod Touch than an iPhone.

Wireless connectivity: Same as the iPod Touch, with the ability to download media through iTunes.

Kindle Rival? May provide the ability to read books, creating a rival to Amazon’s Kindle.

Launch date: By Christmas, possibly as early as September.

man killed at phillies game

In the Fox Network game of the week late yesterday afternoon, the first-place Phillies pummeled the first-place Cardinals, 14-6. Jimmy Rollins pounded the Cards for a grand slam in the 6th inning, and Shane Victorino whacked reliever Jason Motte two pitches later for a homer of his own.
After Chase Utley reduced Motte to applesauce with a line drive double, Dennys Reyes replaced him, but the Fightin' Phils continued the assault in the next inning too.

Now, notice the aggressive verbs and other language above. This is common in sports reporting. Teams "square off" as though boxing, a defensive back "takes a head off" with "a vicious hit," and so forth.

Unfortunately, the fighting became all too real at and outside Citizens Bank Park yesterday, as a 22-year-old man was beaten to death in a fight that "spilled out" of a restaurant in the ballpark and apparently ended in a parking lot at 7th and Pattison Avenues, according to The Philadelphia Inquirer. A 30-year-old man is in "stable condition" in the hospital closest to the ballpark. This occurred "as the Phillies played the St. Louis Cardinals."

sociopath definition
Exclusive: Mary Jo Buttafuoco Speaks Out About Ex-Husband Joey, the 'Sociopath'

Seventeen years after she was shot in the face by her then husband's teenage lover, Mary Jo Buttafuoco called her ex-husband Joey Buttafuoco a "sociopath and a liar."

"I believed him when he said he had nothing to do with her [shooter Amy Fisher]," Mary Jo told "Good Morning America" today in an exclusive interview. "He was a very good sociopath and a liar...When I thought about it and looked it up on the Internet, and looked at sociopathic tendencies... I said 'Oh my God.'" Joey filled all the criteria, she said.

In May 1992, Mary Jo Buttafuoco answered her front door at her Long Island home to see 16-year-old 16-year-old Amy Fisher point a gun at her face and fire. Fisher had been having an affair with Mary Jo's husband, Joey, who was more than twice Fisher's age.

Mary Jo miraculously survived the close range shot, but struggled for years as a national spotlight was thrust on the near-fatal love triangle she didn't even know existed until the day she was shot. Fisher, dubbed the "Long Island Lolita," was sentenced to seven years in prison and her husband Joey got four months for statutory rape. The ordeal was made into three made-for-TV movies.

encyclopedia of life

GENEVA -- Sunshine splashes the foliage at Fabyan Forest Preserve and sparkles on the Fox River's slight chop.

Not far from the villa Col. Fabyan called home, the bright midday sun shines down on a sundial commemorating John Butler. Passersby glance at the sundial -- at how its shadow tells time the old-fashioned way -- and then read the simple legacy of this local man.

"He was a source of invaluable historical information regarding the Fabyan estate, providing interpretive details and contributing to the development of historic publications," the rectangular plaque explains.

Those words only do so much to express how Fabyan affected Butler's life, and how he affected Fabyan's relevance into the 21st Century.

"He was such a historian for us," Darlene Larson, co-chair of Friends of Fabyan, said recently.

Butler's story, which began as a boy living on Fabyan's property in the early 1900s, gave him a relationship to local history that few have. It also shows the value of living historians who bring with them a wide sense of how our communities have changed and grown. The importance of their stories, knowledge and experiences becomes magnified as they begin to pass away. Butler died in 2003 at the age of 97.

"All the people with the history are gone," Butler's nephew Paul Soderstrom, of Batavia, offered during a conversation at the sundial.

The combination of growing communities with more new residents has reinforced the need to preserve voices of people like Butler, while also reminding folks that history happens daily and takes on all shapes.

Formative years at Fabyan
George and Nellie Fabyan came to the Fox Valley in the early 1900s, creating the expansive Fabyan Estate across hundreds of acres south of what is present-day Geneva along the Fox River. The farmhouse was redesigned into The Villa by Frank Lloyd Wright, cages were built to house wild animals such as bears, and dozens of people worked on the estate -- including Butler's mother, Pearl.

John and his sister, Leah, lived on the estate -- it became known as Riverbank -- because of Pearl's job as a cook. John had his duties as well, which included bringing vegetables to the kitchen from the farm on the west side of present-day Route 31. Soderstrom recalls stories of his uncle using those opportunities to see the grounds closer to the river. Larson said Butler and his mother once took a boat south on the Fox to Batavia to purchase school clothes.

John's young adventures continue to be shared, according to his son, Jack. During a brief tour of the main lodge, Jack heard the guide point out the time an unknown boy went into the alligator pit. He quickly spoke up to add an important detail.

"I can tell you who that is: It was my father," Jack recalled saying.

An avid sportsman and pinpoint shooter, Butler even ice fished on the river, his son offered.

Jack, who attended the May dedication of the refurbished sundial to John Butler, said there was little doubt what this distinguished family meant to his father.

"We weren't that much into the Fabyans except through him," Jack said. "We went down there to picnic and he would tell stories. He had such a remarkable memory."

John Butler earned the distinction as a sharp-minded man from those who knew him. He worked as an engineer and tool-and-die maker, and was so mechanically inclined that he helped allay Larson's fear of taking a long flight to Japan by explaining to her exactly how an airplane works. His faculties intact, Butler drove his own car until nearly the day he died, Jack Butler said.

Those anecdotes of one man's journey bring us back to why Butler became so important in the history of Fabyan. With a mind so driven to detail, Butler brought nuance and facts to life whenever he spoke about it. The Friends of Fabyan described Butler this way in a recent newsletter: "We could always depend on him for his accurate memories of life on the estate and what a memory he had -- 'a walking encyclopedia!'"

The Butler Encyclopedia, so to speak, is best documented in Larson's book on Geneva history she wrote in the 1970s. Butler was one of the primary people she interviewed for the chapter on Fabyan, and that's where this quiet man gained his most notoriety.

"It was very, very important to him," Jack Butler offered. "He was more than happy to have that recorded for them."

Beyond the book or sharing with his family, Butler's love for Fabyan showed in the simplest of ways. "He'd go down there every day. He'd walk the estate," Larson said. "He would just see the people from over the years."

india nuclear submarine

India Launches first indigenous nuclear submarine (Second Lead)

VISAKHAPATNAM - India Sunday launched its first indigenous nuclear-powered attack submarine, and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh said on the occasion that the navy had a major role to play in re-adjusting “our military preparedness”.

Underlining that the sea was increasingly relevant in the context of India’s security interests, Manmohan Singh said: “We must re-adjust our military preparedness to this changing environment. Our navy has a huge responsibility in this regard.”

The prime minister spoke at the headquarters of the Indian Navy’s Eastern Command here after his wife, Gursharan Kaur, broke a coconut and did a prayer to mark the launch of INS Arihant, a 6,000-tonne, 110-metre long and 11-metre wide submarine that can carry nearly 100 sailors.

India becomes the sixth country after the US, Russia, China, France and Britain to possess a nuclear-powered submarine.

The launch comes 25 years after the project was initiated when Indira Gandhi was the prime minister.

Calling Sunday’s event a “historic milestone”, Manmohan Singh said: “We do not have any aggressive designs nor do we seek to threaten anyone. We seek an external environment in our region, and beyond that is conducive to our peaceful development and the protection of our value systems.”

Manmohan Singh said the deep sea strategic capability was necessary in view of the increasing relevance of the sea in the country’s security scenario.

The dockyard where the submarine was housed was flooded before the vessel could be tugged out. Officials said it would take two years of sea trials before the vessel is commissioned into the navy.

The submarine was built under the Advanced Technology Vessel project. Powered by a nuclear reactor, INS Arihant, literally meaning the destroyer of all enemies, can stay below the water for indefinite period.

Like all submarines, it is capable of firing missiles and torpedoes. It is fitted with latest weapons and sensors. The steel for the submarine was cut in 1998.

Hailing the achievement, Defence Minister A.K. Antony said the “present situation in our neighbourhood” demanded greater acquisition of strategic assets.

Manmohan Singh and Antony did not take any country’s name. But the biggest navy in Asia is China’s. It is known to have 8-10 nuclear-powered submarines and 50-60 diesel-electric submarines.

The INS Arihant project was made successful by the close partnership of the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), the Department of Atomic Energy (DAE) and other public and private sector undertakings.

“Today is the first visible step towards realisation of creating the sea leg of our nuclear triad… It will provide us credible second strike capability,” said India’s Navy chief, Admiral Sureesh Mehta.

The submarine will increase the reach and endurance of the Indian Navy, which seeks to become a true blue water navy and project its force beyond its borders.

The Russian help in the project was profusely appreciated by the prime minister.

Earlier, after the launch, Gursharan Kaur said: “Mai pandubbi ke sabhi nausainkon ke ujjawal bhavishya ki kamna karti hun.” (I pray for the bright future of all the sailors onboard the submarine).

year of jubilee

NATCHEZ — Family and tradition combined with food, fun and music to create the 17th annual Minorville Jubilee.

Smoke billowed from grills, children, and some adults, cooled off in the water spray from the fire truck and friends gathered under the shade trees on Minor Street to reminisce and make new memories.

“It started right there on that corner,” Roosevelt Williams said. “And I haven’t missed a single one, and I wouldn’t miss one.”

Williams said what he enjoys most is the atmosphere of the day — the music, the food and the friends.

For Williams, the Minorville Jubilee has changed over the years, but the purpose is still the same.

“It is about coming out and seeing your people,” he said. “Now, there are a lot more young people and not as many of us originals left, but that’s a good thing. That means this will continue.”

For Oliver Hawkins, the jubilee is a time to reconnect with people from his childhood.

“I grew up on Pintard and with this,” he said. “It’s just a good time to revisit the people from my childhood.”

Hawkins was accompanied by first time jubilee-goer Tammy Flowers. Flowers said despite spending many years of life on Minor Street, she had never been able to attend a jubilee, but she was glad she came this year.

“I was always working out of town and just couldn’t make it,” she said. “But so far it has been fun seeing everyone.”

For the last eight years, Donna Jackson has had a front row seat to all the jubilee festivities. All Jackson had to do was walk out her front door to begin enjoying the day.

“I like watching the kids have fun,” she said. “That’s what the day is about, these kids out here having a good time.”

Many of the children were enjoying an inflatable water slide set up next door to Jackson’s home while others sat on curb waiting for the water to begin spraying from the fire truck.

Jackson’s front porch and yard were crowded with folks enjoying a variety of foods prepared for the day and sharing memories with family and friends.

And though, Jackson wasn’t sure who they all were, it didn’t matter — at least for one day.

“It doesn’t matter who is on your porch on jubilee day,” she said. “On this day, we are all like family.”

Clint Dixon was enjoying a game of dominoes with his sister and cousin, which in his opinion, summed up what the jubilee is all about.

“This is just a good community event,” he said. “In a way, it is a big family reunion for lots of families because people come back for this.”

Dixon’s family is one that is sure to get together each year at the Minorville Jubilee.

“We’re spread out all over now,” Dixon’s sister Barbara Dixon said. “But this is something we plan to be at.”

And Clint Dixon is happy to know his other family members find the jubilee as important as he does.

“It’s all about family and the tradition of this neighborhood,” Clint Dixon said. “We need to keep that going.”

massa crash

Ferrari's Felipe Massa crashes at Hungarian GP; airlifted to hospital in stable condition.

Felipe Massa in high-speed crash at Hungarian GP

BUDAPEST, Hungary — Ferrari driver Felipe Massa slammed into a wall during qualifying for Formula One’s Hungarian Grand Prix on Saturday and was airlifted to a hospital. His team said he was in stable condition.

The Brazilian driver was conscious and moving his arms before being evacuated from the Hungaroring’s medical center by helicopter.

A spring that had fallen off Rubens Barrichello’s Brawn GP car flew up and struck Massa in the helmet, apparently dazing him as the Ferrari continued straight through a curb, across the track and through the gravel area alongside the circuit before slamming into a row of protective tires that line the circuit wall.

Barrichello, a fellow Brazilian, went to the medical center to check on Massa’s condition and said the Ferrari driver appeared to be doing fine.

“He was very agitated,” Barrichello told Brazil’s Globo TV. “He had a cut in his head, which could have been from the part of my car that was on the track. He was talking, was conscious, but they have to analyze the cut.”

Massa appeared to regain control of the car just before the crash at turn No. 4 as his front brakes were locked upon the violent impact.

The 28-year-old Massa stayed in the car for a considerable time and it was unclear whether he required assistance in getting out, before he was taken away on a stretcher.

The front of his Ferrari was shredded, with both tires having come off and the front nose open.

The crash comes less than a week after Henry Surtees, the son of former Formula One champion John Surtees, died in an F2 race. Surtees was struck by a tire from another car, causing him to lose consciousness and drive into a barrier.

The crash was also reminiscent of Heikki Kovalainen’s high-speed crash at last year’s Spanish GP, when the McLaren driver slammed directly into a wall at high speed. Kovalainen spent the night in a hospital with only a concussion.

Qualifying for Sunday’s race was delayed about 20 minutes by the crash.

grove city alumni softball tournament

A brief rainshower was welcomed by Enid’s softball team on the first day of worko
uts Monday morning at Pacer Field.

“It’s been getting up to 108 for our summer games, so it was a good way to start off practice,’’ said Pacers coach Lee Linsenmeyer. “We got a little wet, but other than that it went pretty well.’’

The Pacers went 10-2 in a Tulsa summer league and won all 18 games against s
maller school competition in its own summer league.

However, there were no formal practices to go along with the strength and condi
tioning drills the team had twice a week during the off season.

“We did a lot of teaching stuff, some of the boring stuff,’’ Linsenmeyer said about the first practice. “Once we get it going, we’ll put in some more things.’’

The team will have nine scrimmages in three-game implements at Putnam City North, Aug. 5 (Westmoore, Putnam City and Norman); Owasso, Aug. 8; and Yukon, Aug. 10 before opening the season at Putnam City North Aug. 13 with the Lady Panthers and Moore.

Linsenmeyer was “pretty pleased’’ with how the team did over the summer. Both losses at Tulsa came on “mental mistakes,’’ in the last inning.

The Pacers beat “some teams I would rate in the top 10,’’ in Tulsa, Linsenmeyer said.

“Some of the younger girls surprised me,’’ he said. “ I was not thinking any of them would be able to help us on the varsity level, but now I think some of the younger girls can.’’

The conditioning and strength workout drew a large percentage of the players.

“I think we’ll benefit from that a lot,’’ Linsenmeyer said.

The top priority of the preseason is to find a replacement for pitcher Alex Jones, who struck out 1,043 batters in her illustrious career. She is now at the University of Kansas.

She hit a school record .643 as a senior, stealing 45 bases.

Linsenmeyer’s current plan is by committee with returnees Ty Washington, Regan Crowl and Baily Jones. Sophomore Brooke Benge could figure in the rotation if she can come back from a broken wrist and fractured ankle.

“We don’t have that one pitcher who can just shut everyone out,’’ Linsenmeyer said. “We want to get four strong innings from somebody and then throw somebody else three innings. All three of these girls can give batters different looks. That will help us to keep the opposition off balance.’’

EHS returns All-Centennial Conference performers Hayley Hudson at third and Kaleena Castor at short. Washington was an all-conference outfielder.

Catcher-outfielder Chantel Bay and outfielders Brittany Havens and Courtney Goodwin have starting experience as well.

“I think defense is going to be a real strength for us,’’ Linsenmeyer.

Goodwin, Meghann Bennett and Kenda Case will get a look at second base.

“We’re probably as deep at every position since I’ve been here,’’ Linsenmeyer said. “We have had good players at every position before, but we haven’t had as strong as backups as we do now. We have a strong backup at every position now.’’

The JV team will have a Centennial Conference festival Aug. 12.

Kara Toigo is the only returning assistant coach. Bridget Davis has joined the staff as a high school assistant. Danielle Hinkley is the new junior high coach. Longtime assistant Donna Bunch has retired from coaching. Mandy Jones has gone to Grove with her husband Will.

Baily Jones is playing in the 18-under nationals this week in Florida. Hudson will participate in the 18-under Gold Nationals at Oklahoma City’s Hall of Fame Stadium beginning Aug. 3.

gold cup final

CHICAGO (AP) — Mexico squeezed past Costa Rica on penalties on Thursday to set up a CONCACAF Gold Cup final against its archrival, the United States.

The game finished 1-1 after extra time after two goals in the closing minutes of regulation time, before Mexico goalkeeper Guillermo Ochoa pulled off a vital save in the shootout and Carlos Vela converted the winning penalty.

It will be Mexico's sixth trip to the Gold Cup final, with its only loss coming two years ago at the hands of the Americans. The final is Sunday at the Meadowlands in New Jersey.

"We're very happy as a team. This was a struggle against a very good team, but now we are through to the final," Ochoa said.

Mexico blew several chances to put the game away in the second half and in the first period of extra time. But El Tri were faultless in the shootout, converting all their spotkicks while Ochoa pulled off his key block.

The decisive penalty came on Costa Rica's third shot. Froylan Ledezma, whose goal in the 93rd minute sent the game into extra time, put his shot on target but Ochoa dived to his left and knocked the ball away with his hands.

Sunday's final is sure to be highly charged, as all games between the United States and Mexico are. That the two have a World Cup qualifier Aug. 12 at Azteca -- where the Americans have never won -- only adds to the drama.

"We're not focusing on that right now, we're focusing on our next match," Ochoa said. "What's important is the match coming now, and we need to play well against them before we can start looking forward to (Aug. 12)."

At least Mexico will have its coach back. Javier Aguirre's three-game suspension for his altercation with Panama's Ricardo Phillips during group play ended with Thursday night's game.

Though Mexico had few of its regular starters -- like the United States in the first semifinal -- any victory these days is big. El Tri has had a succession of coaches, bad losses and a surprisingly slow start to World Cup qualifying. Mexico is fourth in the CONCACAF region right now, with only the top three teams getting automatic spots in South Africa next year.

"This win tonight in this tournament is going to energize us," Aguirre said through a translator.

Mexico had a chance to go ahead in the 56th minute when a penalty was awarded for handball against Costa Rica captain Freddy Fernandez. But Miguel Sabah's shot was low and easily stopped by Ticos goalkeeper Keilor Navas.

Mexico finally broke through in the 88th minute when Guillermo Franco scored from the edge of the 6-yard box. Navas swatted at the ball, but it bounced backward and over the goal line.

Mexico's celebrations were short-lived. Three minutes into stoppage time and seconds from the final whistle, Alvaro Saborio headed the ball forward and Ledezma beat Juan Carlos Valenzuela for it. Ochoa had no chance to stop the fierce shot from 10 yards, and the game went to extra time.

helicopter crash maryland

A commercial helicopter crashed onto a western Maryland interstate highway and burst into flames late Thursday, killing all four people on board, emergency officials said. (July 24)

Wreckage of a Robinson R-44 helicopter is removed from the eastbound lanes of Interstate 70 near the Washington and Frederick County line in Maryland early Friday, July 24, 2009. (WTTG)

Four people died late Thursday when a helicopter crashed on a western Maryland highway, emergency officials said.

The crash occurred about 10:30 p.m. on Interstate 70 in Washington County, said Kevin Lewis, director of county emergency services.

"When emergency personnel arrived, they found a small commercial aircraft, a Robinson 44 helicopter, with four passengers," he said. "I can confirm four fatalities on site as a result of the crash."

so you think you can dance results july 23

So You Think You Can Dance: Results Show Recap for July 23,2009.

It’s Thursday, which means Fox' So You Think You Can Dance - and tonight we say goodbye to two more dancers. Also, it’s the 100th episode, which means much fun and frivolity will precede the farewell on tonight's So You Think You Can Dance!

We start with the group dance to “One” from The Chorus Line, a show that I heart beyond reason. They have white suits and dance with mirrors and even though it’s Tyce Diorio I really like it! Then it turns out NOT to be Tyce at all, but Mia Michaels. Interesting. Well, last night Tyce’s piece was very Mia-like, so maybe they’re exchanging tributes.

Cat promises an incredible evening and re-introduces us to the judges, sans Ellen Degeneres. Mia’s favorite thing about this show is the “little babies coming back home to the nest” and becoming Emmy-nominated choreographers and showing what they’ve learned. This show means the world to Mary, it’s been a lot of laughter and tears, and it has changed her life. She is very proud and grateful. Nigel says the best part is that television at its best can reach out and unite a country with a shared experience, and he thinks last night’s Tyce routine was one such moment. Olivia Newton-John, a breast cancer survivor, called Nigel and thought the routine said more than words could. He is extremely proud that the program can shed light on a difficult subject.

We get a reel of highlights from the past five seasons, and I’m amazed at all I remember and all I’ve forgotten. Blake, Travis, Sabra, Hok… faces I haven’t thought of in a while, and a few moments I remember all the time—including the Bench and the Hummingbird and the Flower, both of which we’ll see, live, tonight.

Cat reminds us what happened last night. You saw it. And if you didn’t you missed out.

RESULTS! Start with the girls. Melissa was awesome. Is she the first in danger? No. Nice recovery from last week, girlfriend. Kayla. Is she still alive? Possibly not, she’s in the bottom two. Wow. Janette or Jeanine? Janette has NEVER been in the bottom. Is she there tonight? Yep. Wow. Interesting…

And the first special treat of the night: back from Season 3 with the Hummingbird and the Flower by Wade Robson, it’s Hok and Jaimie!! Oddly, this wasn’t one of my favorites at the time, but over the course of 5 seasons it is definitely still memorable. Nice to see these two again. Watching it now I think I like it better than I did then…

The guys’ results. Ade. Mia thought his cha-cha was his worst of the season, did he make up for it with the magical Tyce routine? We’ll find out after we speak to Jason. One is safe and one is not. The dancer is danger is… Jason. Evan and Brandon. Neither has ever been in the bottom group. NO WAY. Brandon is in the bottom two. What sort of crazy fan base does Evan have? I mean, I love him, but I’m surprised that he is above these two. I kinda thought it was his time.

Oooh yay! THE BENCH. Travis and Heidi (from Season 2) are back, and I love this routine. Heidi is very blond. This was always a showcase for Travis, and I do wish there was more Heidi. I love that routine.

I think they should do this every week—bring back favorites from the past. It keeps the show moving, there’s no filler, it’s just good stuff and I’m loving it.

Kayla reprises her solo from last night. And again, I’m not blown away by it, but she’s undeniably good. Jason. There might be a touch more energy from him tonight. Janette’s up quickly, again with the Celine Dion. If she’s sent home I think she can blame Celine. Brandon. Sigh. He’s wearing a shirt this time. Subtract points for that. Best solo of the night, by far, in my opinion, even with a shirt on.

Now, a group routine from days past. The top 8 from Season 2 is joined onstage by Wade Robson. Ramalama, ladies and gentlemen. I would love to see this live. LOVE. If for no other reason than not to be bound to the choices of camera angles. The focus on Wade is certainly understandable, but I want to see Ivan and Allison and Donyelle and my other favorites! Also, these are choreographed for the audience, not the camera. Mostly. But this dance is just awesome. Certainly worth watching, check it out if you can.

Katie Holmes is here because she is involved in the Dizzy Feet Foundation, and is apparently good friends with Tyce. Huh. She’s doing an homage to Judy Garland. I knew she could sing (Joey Potter could sing, ya know, as well as her character on Eli Stone) but I didn’t know she could dance. Her hair is really shiny. I wonder what million dollar product she uses that makes her hair so shiny. It is not live onstage, which I thought it would be… silly me. It’s a production. I really wanted her to sing live. She’s lip syncing really well. And she’s not going to win any dance awards either. I shouldn’t be so mean, especially if her participation is helping what seems to be a really great cause. Theatre people, though, one of which she is supposed to be, don’t lip sync.

Nigel thanks Katie Holmes for working so hard and donating her fee to the foundation. Also, Judy Garland’s son Joey Luft is in the audience.

Kayla and Janette, one is going home. The girl leaving is… Janette. I’m surprised, and I think she has Tyce to blame for keeping Melissa. She went from never being in the bottom to going home, just like that. She has had an amazing season, held her own with Brandon, danced everything, and had the least training of all of them. Cat thinks it is the shock of the season. Nigel admits he really wanted her to win, and her ouster has ruined the 100th celebration. Wow. She’s not going back to the bank after this.
